Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

I've never realized this was going on. I've been seeing yellow everywhere for a while now but I've just taken time to read a whole lot of journals and I can only say that I am appalled. I had joined dA not too long ago and I'm already in love with it--the art, the community, the opportunities. The possibility that it may be decaying into something else is sickening, and yet still there.

I wish I could say more, but I'm not terribly good at this. So I'll let these links speak for me.

I was kind of shoked too when I realised what's going on. I've been addicted to this site a long time before I made an account so you can imagine that I read a lot of journal entries like the ones you linked. A lot of people started complaining about art beeing stolen and many seem to believe that DA doesn't actually care about their work and security.
.... I don't know what to say about this....except that I'm very sorry ...

its true, DA is becoming more corp, which is sad, cause these sites are for artists to be free and have fun, fun being the key word, but once it gets so popular, the whole idea just fades away, and what will us as artists do?
